Founded in 1821, Universidad de Buenos Aires is Latin America’s largest and most prestigious university, ranking 84th in the QS World University Rankings 2027. Remarkably, UBA charges no tuition fees to any student, domestic or international, and has produced five Nobel laureates across medicine and chemistry.

International applicants apply through UBA’s international relations office with academic transcripts and, for most faculties, completion of the Ciclo Básico Común (common basic cycle) required of all students before specializing. Spanish language proficiency is generally required given the language of instruction.

Unlike many top-ranked universities, UBA has open admission for Argentine secondary school graduates, requiring completion of the Ciclo Básico Común first-year program as the primary academic filter rather than competitive entrance exams.

Since UBA charges no tuition at all, its scholarship programs focus instead on living stipends and housing support for students from economically disadvantaged backgrounds, including some international exchange arrangements.
