NUS Admission Guide 2027: Requirements, Tuition Grant, Scholarships and How to Apply
NUS admission gives international students a rare combination: a top-10 Asian research university, English-language teaching and a government tuition grant that cuts fees sharply in exchange for a work bond. This NUS Admission Guide 2027 explains the application window, entry requirements, the Tuition Grant and its bond, scholarships, student pass basics and what to check before you commit, using NUS and other official sources checked in October 2026. For ranking and a short profile, see our NUS profile page.
NUS QS Ranking 2027: Asia’s Leading Comprehensive University
NUS is 10th in the QS World University Rankings 2027 and the top-ranked university in Singapore. It teaches in English and spans engineering, computing, medicine, law, business and the sciences on a compact, well-connected campus. See every ranked university in our World’s Top 100 Universities directory.
Its closest local rival is NTU, so read our NTU admission guide, and compare Hong Kong options in our HKU admission guide.
What Is the NUS Acceptance Rate?
NUS does not publish an official acceptance rate for international applicants. Competition varies widely: medicine, computing and law are far harder than most other programmes. Judge your chances by your predicted or final grades against the published requirements for your qualification and course, not by a single percentage.
NUS Entry Requirements for International Students
- Qualification-based: NUS lists requirements for A-levels, IB, SAT or ACT with AP, and national certificates, so check the table for yours.
- Course prerequisites: engineering, computing and science programmes require specific maths or science subjects.
- Documents: transcripts, predicted or final results and the application fee must be submitted before the deadline.
- English: applicants whose first language is not English should check which proficiency evidence NUS accepts.
- Interviews or tests: some programmes, such as medicine and law, add extra assessments.
English Proficiency and Subject Preparation for NUS
NUS lists the English tests it accepts on its admissions page. Practise with our IELTS preparation guides, the Word Bank and the 1500 advanced English words list. Prepare strongly in maths and science if you plan to apply to engineering or computing.

NUS Tuition Fees and the Tuition Grant Bond
NUS tuition for international students is subsidised through Singapore’s Ministry of Education Tuition Grant. Reported fees after the grant for academic year 2026–27 are about S$21,400 a year for most programmes and about S$22,200 for business, with medicine and some other courses charged more. Confirm the current figures on the NUS fees page.
The catch is the Tuition Grant bond: international students who accept the grant agree to work for a Singapore-registered company for three years after graduation. Read the bond terms before you accept, because failing to meet them can mean repaying the subsidy.
NUS Scholarships for International Students
- NUS International Undergraduate Scholarship and other merit awards are listed on the NUS scholarships page, with dates tied to the admission cycle.
- ASEAN Undergraduate Scholarship: for citizens or permanent residents of ASEAN countries other than Singapore, covering tuition after the Tuition Grant.
- Faculty and external awards: check your faculty and your own government.
- More funding: compare options in our fully funded scholarships for 2027 guide.
Student’s Pass and Living in Singapore
Admitted international students need a Student’s Pass issued by Singapore’s Immigration & Checkpoints Authority, and NUS guides you through the online process after you accept. Singapore has high living and rent costs by Asian standards, but also good public transport and safe neighbourhoods. NUS advises you to plan a monthly living budget and to apply for hall or off-campus housing early.
Careers After NUS and the Work Bond
Singapore is a major finance, technology, logistics and biomedical hub. If you take the Tuition Grant, your first three working years after graduation are tied to a Singapore-registered employer. Work pass rules change, and no job outcome is guaranteed.
Mistakes That Cost NUS Applicants
- Ignoring the Tuition Grant bond until after you accept.
- Applying near the closing date and meeting portal delays.
- Choosing a programme without its maths or science prerequisites.
- Missing the scholarship window attached to admission.
- Using last year’s fee figures.
