Tsinghua University Admission Guide 2027: Requirements, Scholarships, Fees and How to Apply
Tsinghua University admission offers international students three routes: bilingual undergraduate programmes that need Chinese, a few fully English undergraduate programmes, and more than 30 English-taught master’s and doctoral programmes. This Tsinghua University Admission Guide 2027 explains the language rules, application windows, scholarships including the Chinese Government Scholarship through HEC for Pakistani students, and visa basics, using Tsinghua and other sources checked in October 2026. For ranking and a short profile, see our Tsinghua profile page.
Tsinghua QS Ranking 2027 and Its Strengths
Tsinghua is 14th in the QS World University Rankings 2027, one place behind Peking University. It is China’s leading engineering and technology university and a founding member of the C9 League. See all ranked universities in our World’s Top 100 Universities directory.

What Is the Tsinghua Acceptance Rate?
Tsinghua does not publish an acceptance rate for international applicants. Undergraduate admission uses a comprehensive evaluation rather than one standardised test, and graduate admission is decided by each school or department, so the practical question is whether your language level and academic record match the programme.
Tsinghua Entry Requirements for International Students
- Undergraduate: programmes are mainly delivered in Chinese and English, and for Chinese-English programmes Tsinghua asks for HSK Level 5 or above with each subject scored over 60.
- Fully English undergraduate programmes: the Global Talents in Science and Engineering Program, the Urban Regeneration and Design Program and the Tsinghua–CUHK Dual Undergraduate Degree in Economics.
- English-taught courses: up to 200 undergraduate courses are taught in English or bilingually.
- Master’s and doctoral: more than 30 programmes are taught fully in English, and requirements are listed in each department’s catalogue.
- Documents: uploaded documents must be in Chinese or English, otherwise notarial translations are required.
HSK and English Tests for Tsinghua
Your test depends on the programme. For bilingual undergraduate programmes plan HSK 5, and for English-taught programmes check the department’s catalogue for IELTS or TOEFL minimums (independent guides quote IELTS 6.5 or TOEFL 90 for many programmes). Prepare with our IELTS preparation guides and the Word Bank.

Chinese Student Visa and Living in Beijing
Admitted students receive admission documents from Tsinghua to apply for a student visa and then a residence permit after arrival. Follow Tsinghua’s instructions exactly. Beijing is a large, well-connected city, and the CSC stipend is designed to cover living costs. Chinese-language support is available, which helps in daily life even when your degree is in English.
Mistakes That Cost Tsinghua Applicants
- Applying to a Chinese-taught undergraduate programme without HSK.
- Assuming every programme is taught in English.
- Submitting documents in another language without notarial translation.
- Ignoring the winter break closure.
- Completing the CSC form but not the HEC portal.
