University of Oxford admission starts earlier than almost any other: the UCAS deadline is 15 October, and a new set of admissions tests applies to 2027 entry. This University of Oxford Admission Guide 2027 explains the college system, tests, interviews, decision dates, 2026–27 overseas fees, scholarships and visa money, using Oxford and UK government sources checked in October 2026. Oxford QS Ranking 2027 and the College System
Oxford is 4th in the QS World University Rankings 2027 and the oldest university in the English-speaking world. Students belong to one of 39 colleges, which provide small-group teaching, while the university sets courses and exams. See all ranked universities in our World’s Top 100 Universities directory.
Its main rival is Cambridge, so read our Cambridge admission guide alongside this one.
What Is the Oxford Acceptance Rate?
Oxford states that more than 23,000 applicants compete for around 3,200 places each year, which is about one offer for every seven applicants. Rates vary sharply by course, and your choice of college matters less than the strength of your application and test results.
Oxford Entry Requirements for International Students
- One course, one application: you apply to a single Oxford course through UCAS, with a college choice or an open application.
- Top grades: offers are among the highest in the UK, tied to A-levels, IB or equivalent with subject requirements.
- Admissions tests: many courses use tests, now owned and managed by UAT-UK, plus the LNAT for Law and UCAT for Medicine.
- Written work: some courses ask you to submit examples of your work.
- Interviews: shortlisted applicants are interviewed online in December 2026.
Admissions Tests and English Rules for Oxford
From 2026 Oxford uses UAT-UK admissions tests for many courses, in addition to LNAT and UCAT. If your UCAS deadline is 15 October, you must take the October sitting: test dates are 12 to 16 October 2026, and you must book well in advance. Some Astrophoria Foundation Year applicants may take the January sitting instead.

Oxford Tuition Fees for International Students
Oxford publishes overseas course fees as a single annual figure per course (there is no separate college fee). For 2026 entry the overseas range starts at £37,380 a year and rises for laboratory and clinical courses, with clinical medicine years considerably higher. Home students pay £9,790 in 2026/27, rising to £10,050 in 2027/28.
As a rough first-year plan at the lowest band: £37,380 tuition plus £10,827 visa living-cost funds plus the £558 visa fee is £48,765 before the Immigration Health Surcharge (our calculation). Oxford’s own cost estimates for living are about £1,405 to £2,105 a month, as reported for 2026–27.
Oxford Scholarships for International Students
- Reach Oxford Scholarship (undergraduate): for applicants from lower-income countries, covering tuition, a living grant and an annual return fare. You must first receive an Oxford offer, and the reported application deadline is 4 February 2027.
- Clarendon Fund (postgraduate): uses your Oxford application, with no separate form, and covers full tuition plus a living stipend.
- Felix Scholarship: closes on 8 January 2027 within the Oxford application form.
- Rhodes Scholarship: a separate application through your country or region, with its own deadline.
- External funding: see our fully funded scholarships for 2027 guide.
